VILLA MOLOVA
Villa Molova: A Historic Retreat in Molyvos, Lesvos
Nestled in the traditional village of Molyvos on the Greek island of Lesvos, Villa Molova is a beautifully restored early 20th-century stone house offering spectacular views of the village and its picturesque harbor. The villa is furnished throughout with mid-19th-century antiques, adding to its unique charm.
Built in the early 20th century for the newly married Ioannis and Maritsa Krallis, Villa Molova has a fascinating history. The Krallis family, prominent figures in the local community since the 17th century, also owned another mansion in the village, which now houses the School of Fine Arts museum.
During World War II, the villa was confiscated by German forces and used as their local command. From 1972 to 1978, during the Greek-Turkish conflict, it served as the Greek local army command. Restored to its original condition in 1987 and further remodelled in 2003, Villa Molova now offers modern comforts within its historic walls.
Located on a slope above the harbour, the two-level villa is accessible from two roads. The north side offers access to the first level via a stone-paved road, while a flower-lined, almost private driveway leads to the ground level and private parking on the south side. Both levels provide access to a Mediterranean-style garden featuring a large shaded relaxation area, a swimming pool with a Jacuzzi, and a convenient shower room with a WC. Thick stone walls keep the villa cool even in summer, while central heating ensures comfort during the winter months.
Entering through the high wooden front door, you’ll find the first level, which includes three air-conditioned bedrooms with ceiling fans (one double, one triple, and one additional double); a spacious living/dining room furnished with antique seating (including a comfortable couch and bench seats) and a dining table with chairs; two of the bedrooms open onto a terrace with stunning views and a retractable awning, and the third double bedroom also shares this terrace; an elegant bathroom with a large bathtub and Jacuzzi; and a practical kitchenette with a double-faucet sink and a fridge-freezer.
A wide wooden staircase leads down from the living room to the ground level, which features a shower room with a WC; a fully equipped kitchen with a large wooden door opening onto a lounge area with a sofa bed; a large shaded terrace accessible from the lounge, offering fabulous views of Molyvos harbour and the village; and a cosy, airy single bedroom built partially into the rock.
