Sappho Travel is delighted to be supporting participants attending the 5th EL*C International Lesbian Conference, taking place in Skala Eressos, Lesvos, Greece, from 7 to 17 October 2027.
Through Sappho Travel, conference participants can:
- request accommodation in Skala Eressos;
- arrange transfers between Mytilene Airport or Mytilene Port and Skala Eressos;
- request information or assistance regarding flights or ferry travel to Lesvos;
- receive general travel assistance when planning their journey to the conference.
We process each request individually. After reviewing your requirements and checking availability, we will send you a written proposal for the services we can offer.
Accommodation in Skala Eressos
Skala Eressos offers a wide range of small hotels, studios, apartments, guesthouses and holiday homes.
Accommodation varies considerably in location, room type, number and type of beds, facilities, accessibility, distance from conference venues and price.
October falls outside the main summer season in Skala Eressos. Some accommodation providers would normally be closed during this period and are opening specifically for the EL*C Conference.
Sappho Travel has therefore arranged accommodation with a number of local property owners in advance for conference participants.
We strongly recommend submitting your accommodation request as early as possible, particularly if you:
- require accommodation for single occupancy;
- require two separate beds or bedrooms;
- need accessible or step-free accommodation;
- have a limited accommodation budget;
- are travelling as a group;
- wish to arrive before 7 October or leave after 17 October;
- require a particular location, such as close to the beach or conference venues;
- have other essential accommodation requirements.
Submitting a request does not automatically reserve accommodation. We will first check the available options and send you a proposal.
Airport and port transfers
Sappho Travel can arrange transfers between Mytilene Airport or Mytilene Port and Skala Eressos.
The journey between Mytilene and Skala Eressos takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes by taxi.
Depending on passenger numbers and compatible arrival or departure times, we may be able to arrange:
- private taxi transfers;
- shared taxi transfers;
- group or minibus transfers.
Shared transfers can only be organised when sufficient passengers are travelling at compatible times. We therefore recommend supplying your exact flight or ferry details as soon as they become available.
If you do not yet know your travel details, you can still arrange your accommodation first and provide your transfer information later.
Flights and ferries
Mytilene International Airport is the main airport serving Lesvos.
Most international travellers reach Lesvos via Athens. Connections via Thessaloniki may also be available, and seasonal direct international services may operate from some European airports.
Sappho Travel can assist with:
- flight schedule information;
- fare quotations;
- domestic and international flight reservations;
- baggage information;
- coordinating flights with island transfers.
Flight schedules and fares for October 2027 will become more complete as the travel date approaches.
Lesvos can also be reached by ferry.
Services normally operate between Piraeus and Mytilene, while additional connections may operate from other Greek ports, including northern Greece, depending on the seasonal timetable.
Detailed ferry schedules for autumn 2027 may not be published until closer to the travel period.

- passenger reservations;
- cabin or seat information;
- vehicle reservations where applicable.
All schedules and fares remain subject to the operating carrier’s availability and conditions.
Accessibility and Practical Requirements
Accommodation and conference venues in Skala Eressos vary considerably in terms of accessibility.
When requesting accommodation or transport, please tell us about the practical features you require, rather than simply stating that accessible accommodation is needed.
For example:
- step-free access;
- ground-floor accommodation;
- limited or no stairs;
- walk-in shower;
- particular bathroom requirements;
- limited walking distance;
- accessible vehicle requirements;
- proximity to conference venues or village amenities.
We will verify requested accommodation and transport features wherever possible.
An accessibility feature should only be considered confirmed when it is specifically included in your written proposal or booking confirmation.

EL*C is celebrating its 10th anniversary in Skala Eressos in 2027.
The conference will bring together lesbian activists, human-rights defenders, artists, researchers and community members from around the world for political discussion, learning, workshops, cultural events, performances and opportunities to connect.
EL*C describes the 2027 programme as including panels, workshops, keynote speeches, lectures and learning sessions alongside exhibitions, performances, music, comedy, films, sport and gastronomic events. The detailed programme is still being developed.
Current programme outline
- 7 October: Arrival day
- 8 October: Conference opening and welcome reception in the evening
- 8–11 October: Afternoon and evening sessions, cultural events and community activities
- 12–14 October: Plenaries, panels, workshops and learning sessions
- 15–16 October: Conference finale, including screenings, performances, concerts and other events
- 17 October: Departure day
The detailed programme will be published by EL*C at a later date.
Conference registration is now open and is administered directly by EL*C.
Registration fees, conference programme information, scholarships, participant information and conference accessibility information are determined and published by EL*C.
Conference registration and accommodation booking are separate processes.
Registering for the conference does not reserve accommodation.
Similarly, booking accommodation or submitting an accommodation request through Sappho Travel does not register you for the conference.

EL*C currently lists Early Bird, Regular, Support and reduced Local registration categories on its conference page.
EL*C-managed accommodation
EL*C has reserved some accommodation directly for speakers, scholars, invited participants and other conference-related purposes.
Participants who are allocated accommodation directly by ELC will receive separate information and instructions from the ELC team.
If ELC has arranged your accommodation directly, please follow the booking and payment instructions supplied by ELC and do not submit that accommodation arrangement to Sappho Travel.
In some circumstances, accommodation originally reserved for EL*C may later be offered to participants through Sappho Travel.
Where Sappho Travel issues the accommodation proposal, receives payment and confirms the reservation, the accommodation booking is administered by Sappho Travel and is subject to the applicable Sappho Travel booking terms.
How the booking process works
* Payment conditions:
- For accommodation bookings accepted on or before 30 April 2027, a 50% non-refundable deposit of the total accommodation cost is required to secure the booking.
- The remaining 50% balance must be paid by 30 April 2027.
- For bookings made after 30 April 2027, the full accommodation cost will normally be payable at the time of booking.
- Accommodation is not considered confirmed until the required payment has been received and Sappho Travel has issued written confirmation.
- Flight and ferry tickets must be paid in full before issue and are subject to the fare rules and ticket conditions of the relevant airline or ferry company.
